#1 Closing Video Interview w/AOA’s Susan Littlefield–Why 1986 Keeps Me Going “Back To The Future”
I felt as though my Choice-Select Beef Spread video comments needed some further clarification: my major point now that we’re in Q4 is that I think packers should move more aggressively toward buying-up cattle at theoretically higher prices especially when Select prices gain on Choice. It’s about the wholesale-packer demand signals, not final retail-consumer demand signals. And from what I can see at this point, because consumers at the retail level are pushing-back on the cost at the Choice level of cuts, it’s more important for Select prices–not Choice–to move higher to induce increase packer buying (with Select likely bringing them a higher margin of profit?) in order for producer cattle prices to go higher. Hopefully, the research below done about 25 years ago helps clarify my point better.
#2 Another Great Headline From The Day After The 1986 Mid-Terms From The NYT–Recall That During This Time Was The Peak of Concern Regarding The Soviet Union…And Then By November 9, 1986, The Berlin Wall Fell
